Oncology Esthetics in Bel Air, MD: Personalized Care During Cancer Treatment & Recovery.
Cancer treatment can change so much about your everyday life.
Your skin may feel different. Your body may feel different. Your routines may change. And so much of your attention may understandably be focused on appointments, medications, procedures, lab work, and recovery.
But you are still you.

You still deserve moments of comfort, relaxation, care, and normalcy.
At The Fresh Method in downtown Bel Air, Maryland, I provide personalized oncology esthetic services for people currently going through cancer treatment, recovering from treatment, living beyond cancer, and those who want esthetic care that takes their cancer history into consideration.
My goal is simple: to create a calm, nurturing space where you can take a breath, close your eyes, and let someone take care of you for a little while.
What Is Oncology Esthetics?
Oncology esthetics is a personalized approach to esthetic care for people affected by cancer and cancer treatment.
Rather than using the same facial, skincare routine, or esthetic service for everyone, oncology esthetics takes an individual's circumstances into consideration.
Your treatment history, medications, surgeries, radiation, skin changes, medical devices, sensitivities, and recovery can all be relevant when determining how esthetic services should be approached.

Oncology esthetics is not cancer treatment, and an esthetician does not diagnose or manage cancer.
Instead, it is an approach to esthetic care
that recognizes that someone who has experienced cancer may have different needs and considerations than someone without that history.
At The Fresh Method, your care is personalized around you.
Why Choose The Fresh Method for Oncology Esthetics?
I am a Maryland-licensed esthetician trained in oncology esthetics through Oncology Spa Solutions.

Before deciding how your appointment should look, I take the time to understand your circumstances and the type of experience you are looking for.
Every cancer journey is different.
Your treatment, medications, surgeries, radiation, lymph node removal, skin changes, recovery, or other treatment-related considerations may affect how esthetic services should be modified.
That is why I do not believe in a one-size-fits-all oncology facial or treatment.
Oncology esthetics is an approach—not a single predetermined service.
My goal is to provide thoughtful esthetic care while creating a space where you can feel comfortable, respected, relaxed, and cared for.
Who Is Oncology Esthetics For?
Oncology esthetics may be appropriate for people at many different points in their cancer journey.

You may be:
Currently undergoing chemotherapy or another cancer treatment
Receiving radiation
Recovering after cancer surgery or treatment
Experiencing changes in your skin, scalp, hands, arms, or feet
Living years beyond your cancer treatment
Looking for a more individualized approach to skincare
A cancer survivor who wants an esthetician who understands that your history matters
You do not have to be actively receiving treatment to seek oncology-conscious esthetic care. There is no expiration date on wanting thoughtful, individualized care that takes your history into consideration. And you do not have to know exactly which service is appropriate before you reach out.
You tell me your story. I take the time to understand it and personalize your care accordingly.
What Happens During an Oncology Esthetics Consultation?

The consultation is an important part of the experience because I want to understand more than just what your skin looks like that day.
Depending on your circumstances, we may discuss:
Your cancer history and where you are in your journey
Current or previous treatments
Chemotherapy or radiation
Surgeries
Lymph node removal
Medications
Medical devices such as a PICC line
Relevant treatment-related considerations
Skin changes or sensitivities
Scarring
Your current skincare routine
Products you are currently using
Concerns you would like addressed
What you would like to feel or experience during your appointment
You can have a consultation separately, either in person or virtually.
If you would like to receive treatment during the same visit, that can be arranged when enough time has been reserved and the service is appropriate for your circumstances. The consultation may be longer when your history is more complex because I would rather take the time to understand you than rush through your appointment.
You Don't Have to Figure It All Out Yourself
One of the biggest things I want people to know is that you do not have to become an expert in esthetic contraindications before contacting me.

You do need to be open with me about your cancer history, treatments, medications, surgeries, medical devices, and anything else that may be relevant.
From there, I can determine how your esthetic care may need to be personalized or modified based on the information you provide.
If your medical history or current treatment raises questions about whether a particular service is appropriate, I may recommend that you speak with your oncology or medical care team before treatment.
My role is not to diagnose, treat, or manage cancer.
Your medical providers remain an important part of your care.
My role is to provide esthetic care that is informed by your circumstances and adapted to your individual needs.
What May Be Included in an Oncology Esthetics Appointment?

There is not one single "oncology facial" that looks the same for everyone.
Your appointment can focus on the areas where you would most like to receive care, provided the service is appropriate for your individual circumstances.
Facial & Skincare
A facial can be customized around your current skin condition and treatment history.
The focus may include gentle cleansing, hydration, nourishment, relaxation, and supportive skincare while being mindful of changes your skin may be experiencing.
Sometimes what you need most is not an elaborate treatment.
Sometimes you simply need someone to slow down, take care of your skin, and give you an hour to breathe.
Scalp Care
Your scalp can experience changes during and after cancer treatment.
A soothing scalp-focused appointment may provide gentle care and hydration while creating an opportunity to simply relax.
Scalp services can be modified based on your individual circumstances and current skin condition.
Hands & Arms
Your hands and arms deserve care, too.
A hand and arm treatment may include hydration and relaxing esthetic touch, with the amount and type of touch adapted to your circumstances.
This can be especially meaningful when your hands and arms have spent so much time being associated with IVs, blood draws, medical appointments, or treatment.
Here, they can simply be cared for.
Feet
Foot care can also be incorporated into an oncology esthetic experience.
Depending on your circumstances, the treatment can be adjusted to focus on gentle care, hydration, comfort, and relaxation.
Combination Treatments
If you would like more than one area cared for, combination services may also be available.
Your appointment may include the face, scalp, hands, arms, or feet depending on your individual needs, circumstances, and the experience you are looking for.
The goal is not to fit you into a predetermined treatment.
The goal is to create an experience that feels right for you.
Oncology Skincare at The Fresh Method
Skincare can become especially important when your skin is experiencing changes during cancer treatment or recovery.
At The Fresh Method, I carry and use O' Skin Love, an oncology-focused skincare line created by Becky, the founder of Oncology Spa Solutions.
The products are designed with oncology clients and medically compromised or reactive skin in mind, with options intended to address concerns such as dryness, sensitivity, radiation-related skin changes, and scars.

Skincare is not about buying a shelf full of new products.
Part of my role can be helping you look at your current personal-care routine and determine whether certain products may be unnecessarily irritating or harsh for your current skin.
We can talk about products such as:
Body wash
Shampoo and conditioner
Facial skincare
Moisturizers
Toothpaste
Laundry Detergent
Other personal-care products that may affect sensitive or reactive skin
You do not have to know which products to use before you come in.
We can talk through what you are currently using, what your skin is experiencing, and what you would like your skincare routine to accomplish.
Why Oncology Training Matters
Cancer history is not always something people think to mention when filling out an esthetic intake form—especially if treatment happened months or years ago.
But your history can be important information for your esthetician.
That is one reason specialized oncology education matters.

An oncology-trained esthetician understands that cancer treatment can create circumstances that may require additional questions, modifications, or precautions when providing esthetic services.
You should never feel embarrassed about sharing your history.
And you should not feel like you have to know which details matter.
That is part of why the consultation exists.
If you are receiving esthetic services during or after cancer treatment, consider looking for an esthetician who has specific oncology training and is comfortable discussing how your individual circumstances may affect esthetic care.
Oncology Esthetics Is About More Than Skin
There is a practical side to oncology esthetics: understanding skin changes, treatment history, medications, and how care may need to be modified.
But there is another side that matters just as much.
It is the experience.
Cancer can make life feel like one appointment after another.
There can be waiting, uncertainty, information, responsibility, and a lot of time spent thinking about what comes next.
An esthetic appointment can be a small opportunity to step away from all of that.

To lie back.
To close your eyes.
To feel comfortable.
To be pampered.
To receive gentle touch.
To spend some time thinking about something other than cancer.
You do not have to pretend that everything is normal.
But you can have a moment where you are not thinking about treatment.
You are simply being cared for.
You Don't Have to Wait Until You Feel "Back to Normal"

Cancer treatment can change your relationship with your body and your skin.
Sometimes people feel like they should wait until treatment is completely over, their skin has returned to normal, or they have reached some imagined finish line before they are allowed to focus on themselves.
You don't have to think of self-care that way.
If personalized esthetic care is appropriate for you, you deserve the opportunity to experience it. Whether you are currently in treatment, recovering, or years beyond cancer, you can start with a conversation.
A Note From Alexis
When I was in esthetics school, I learned about oncology esthetics and immediately knew it was something I wanted to pursue.
I believe people going through cancer deserve care, comfort, relaxation, and something positive to look forward to during a chapter of life that can be incredibly demanding.
I do not have a personal cancer story that led me here, and I would never pretend to know exactly what your journey feels like.
But I can listen.
I can learn.
I can take your circumstances seriously.
And I can create an esthetic experience designed around you.
I want you to feel safe, comfortable, relaxed, pampered, empowered, and cared for when you are here.

Most importantly, I want you to know that you do not have to spend every moment of your cancer journey thinking about cancer.
Sometimes you can simply lie back, close your eyes, take a breath, and let someone take care of you.
You deserve that, too.
